No Longer in Existence

by Honora Wolfe
(Boulder, CO)

Hi Lisa,

I went to a school that no longer exists and did things the old fashioned way with a lot of apprenticing to complete my required clinic hours. That being said, It is my belief that, until schools have some endowments (such as donations from the profession to non-profit institutions to subsidize tuition scholarships, etc) so that they can choose who they let in and who they do not with more discernment that currently possible in a privately-owned-tuition-based model of funding, we will continue to have lots of schools owners who feel the same as the man you spoke to who would not request student reviews! It's a sad state of affairs, but true. Some are, however, clearly better than others in my experience with post-graduate education! Some teachers and administrators actually truly care about the quality of practitioner they are turning out.

Thanks for your forum here,

Honora Wolfe

Great Insight!

Hi Honora,

Thank you for sharing your experiences and in depth look at a side of the problem that we (students and recent graduates) rarely look at. Understanding how schools get funded and how that affects the student population are factors that I had not considered.

Thanks for all you do for the acupuncture profession. You are a true leader and source of inspiration!

Peace,
Lisa Hanfileti, LAc
